PIXeY

The PIXeY detector under construction.

PIXeY is a prototype two-phase (liquid/gas) xenon time projection chamber that will be used in basic science research as well as (color) gamma-camera applications for homeland security. One of the main goals of this project is to optimize the energy resolution by studying the effects of independently controlling the drift and proportional-scintillation fields. We also developed a number of upgrades from our previous work. These include high quantum efficiency Photomultiplier Tubes (PMTs), high-reflectivity Teflon walls, and optimized electric-field-defining wire grids.
